Under-18s

Camdisc has adopted the UKU Safeguarding Policy. See our Policies page for more details.

All of our events are attended primarily by adults, so they are unlikely to be appropriate for younger children.

Membership

Under-18s should have a guardian fill out the Membership form for them. In accordance with our safeguarding policy, we cannot store contact details for u18s, so make sure the guardian's email address is collected.

Once the proper consents have been collected, the u18 member may attend training sessions if a responsible adult is present. This may be one of

• their guardian

• a DBS-checked, safeguarding-trained adult camdisc member. Please contact the club at least 24 hours in advance of a session to ensure that we will have a member present who can be responsible for them.

Communication

Under-18 members may not join our mailing list or discord server, and should not contact the club through social media direct messages. The guardian will be added to the mailing list (set up a forwarding rule if you'd like to pass on the message automatically!).

The club management app we use, Spond, allows a member's guardians to review all of their communications and event participation. Guardians may use Spond via the mobile app and/or web client (in which case notifications are received by email). u18 members must use the app to receive notifications, so that we don't to store their email address.

We will use the guardian's email address to coordinate a time when we can set up the u18 member's account. This will only take a few minutes.

• The guardian is added to the group directly, prior to the meeting

• The u18 sets up a temporary email address using a service like minuteinbox.com or 10minutemail.com 

• A camdisc administrator creates an account for the u18 member (linked to their guardian's account) using this temporary address, the u18 member accepts the invite, and then logs in using the temporary address

• If the u18 member ever needs to re-authenticate using an email address, their guardian can contact us using the email in the footer of the page, and we can add another temporary email address
