UKU National Championships 2024 - Women's

The Chameleons team participated in UK Women’s Nationals for a 2nd year in a row! With a team of 14 the weekend was challenging but fun and rewarding nonetheless. The first game against LMU, the eventual tournament runners up, was a great start to the tournament with Chameleons scoring 3 goals, despite not having previously played together. Overall spirits were high on both teams. The second game vs Iceni was extremely tough, with Iceni being the previous nationals champions they presented both a fluid offence and strong defence. Even though Chameleons were bageled they continued to work on their chemistry throughout the game and made some excellent plays. The final game vs Spice was by far the best game played all day, with the Chameleons holding and turning Spice multiple times throughout the game, despite battling some intense wind. The final score was 15-3 to Spice. Special mention: the previous Chameleons nationals captain was by far one of Spice’s best players and continuously destroyed Chameleons with some speedy iso play. Down to 13 players on Sunday the Chameleons gave everything they had though wind, rain and sun. Horizon gave a strong performance on Sunday morning leaving the final score 15-2 to Horizon. Even though the scoreline didn’t reflect so (15-0 L), the final game vs SYC was highly contested by the Chameleons, having worked on team chemistry all weekend. Since the previous year multiple Chameleons players have gone on to represent other teams, Reading Ultimate (finishing 2nd at Div 1 Nats!), Thundering Herd 2 and Spice, to name a few. A massive congrats to all who played and go on to represent the Chameleons legacy.

Overall, the Chameleons finished 1st in Spirit results, with a score of 11, and 8th in placement. Being a pickup team with a much different team sheet to the year prior the Chameleons continued to set a high bar for having a positive attitude with an unfavourable scoreline, all the while representing and showcasing the superb players the UK had to offer at a national level!
